Nigel was an inspiration to me during my teenage years. I already had a love of music when I started at King’s School Peterborough, but he nurtured and encouraged it. As a not especially academic pupil, I felt out of place in the school, but the music room was a haven of calm and creativity. That I managed to achieve A Level music is a tribute to his teaching skills, and possibly one of the reasons I chose a teaching career myself. I also have fond memories of musical evenings at his house with other pupils, his wife Marion – and many dogs.
